Success Story #101—Wisconsin HS Coach Becomes College Coach

networking.jpgLast June, while hosting one of my “Path to College Coaching” Teleseminars, I mentored a high school assistant coach from Wisconsin.

Ryan Schradler, then an assistant at Rice Lake HS, Wisconsin, was an eager coach with dreams of walking the hardwood of college basketball. His network was small but he had some good people aware of him and looking out for any kind of opportunity that he would fit.

In the lottery all you need is ONE good ticket to win it all. In coaching, sometimes all you need is ONE good person to help you at the same time a golden opportunity comes around. That is what happened to Ryan Schradler.

In Ryan’s words this is how it happened:

“Basically it was a networking deal. I got to know Dave Buchanan, the head coach,at Superior and Derrik Netton, the assitant coach, last year as they recruited a player from Rice Lake High School. Derrik took a job in late July back at UNI and the head coach that I worked for put a good word in for me and I got an interview and got the job. I owe a lot of getting the job to the realtionship that I developed and the relationship that Kevin Orr developed with the UW-Superior coaching staff. Orr did a really good job of putting a good word in for me because he knew that I wanted to be a college coach”.

One relationship + A recruited player at Rice Lake + a goal = Success Story #101

Great Job, Ryan. Now the real hard work begins as you begin on your path to college coaching.
